Hearing Testing & Evaluation

A diagnostic hearing evaluation is a critical first step in your journey to better hearing.  It goes beyond a simple hearing screening, performed and interpreted by Shoreline Hearing’s expert audiologist, to properly diagnose the type and degree of hearing loss you have. It allows us to best advise you on the proper treatment for your hearing loss. Your audiologist will review all the results with you so you can move forward with confidence in the proper treatment.  

• Case History: Your audiologist will take a detailed medical history, including medications you are taking, diagnoses you have that may impact your hearing, such as diabetes, and environmental exposures that may have affected your hearing.
• Otoscopy:  An otoscopic exam will be performed to visually inspect your ear canal and eardrum to determine if you have excessive wax, an infection, or other abnormality that may be impacting your hearing.

Diagnostic hearing evaluation will be performed using puretone stimuli and speech stimuli to determine the degree of hearing loss and your ability to understand speech in quiet and in background noise.

Other specialized testing, such as tympanometry and otoacoustic emissions, may be performed to further help us understand the potential cause of your hearing loss.
